Does anyone know actor Robert Duvall? I think he lives in Loudoun County.

Subject: Re: Support Autism Services in Va (House Bill 83)

Dear Honorable Bill Howell:

I am writing to encourage you to support the Support Autism Services in VA (House Bill 83).

Most important, I have a nephew, _______, that turned three in July 2008 that has been diagnosed with Autism, receives autism services, and resides in Fairfax County. My father, __________ (my nephew's grandfather), is a retired U.S. Marine Major and currently an employee of the ______________. My brother and sister-in-law had to fight the schools (In Spotsylvania County and Fairfax County) and insurance regarding my nephew's autism. My family does not know what caused my nephews autism and when my brother and I grew up the schools and insurance industry was different (when I was in school, to my knowledge, I did not have a medical diagnosis for the "resource", learning disability program.)

I am now 36, and was in a "resource program" from grades 7 - 12 at Stafford High School, but to my knowledge, never had a medical diagnosis pertaining to this "resource program" and my brother, to my knowledge, was never in a "resource program", or diagnosed regarding same.

I copied Delegate Clay Athey on this email because I think there may be a relation to my Aunt Mary Athey (my mother's sister), former Warrenton Councilman Steve Athey's wife. I urge the General Assembly, Delegate Clay Athey, and you to pass Virginia House Bill 83.

Thank you for your service to our Commonwealth.

Sincerely,

Kevin F. Mullinix

Thanks Kevin. I havent been able to sched a meeting yet. Try to work that angle. Definitely meet with Del Howell. We need 5 people from every District to contact and meet with their Delegates to support this Bill. Also, i would highly encourage you to attend the Public Hearing .... we need to fill the room.

I don't know if there is any relation, but my Aunt Mary Athey (She married former councilman Steve Athey of Warrenton).

I live in Stafford County, VA that is in delegate/house speaker Bill Howell's district.

Your voice is the most important voice in Virginia. Historically, very few people ever contact their elected representatives on any issue. It has never been more important for you to let your representatives know that you love someone with autism and that you vote. Surprisingly, as we learned at the Loudoun County Autism Summit, many legislators in Virginia still think they don't have any constituents with autism in their districts! With a prevalence rate of 1:150 affected by autism, how could this be possible?

Your elected officials need to hear from you. If you are unsure what to say, try to keep the conversation brief but factual. For example:

"I am one of your constituents, and I just wanted to let you know that I have [autism/a family member with autism/a child with autism] and that I am concerned about the lack of support for the intense needs of [this person]. Here is how it affects my family... and I would like you to support an insurance mandate for autism treatments in Virginia."

You don't have to be an expert! If you are a consituent of Del Athey, contact him! He will be glad to hear from you and won't give you the fifth degree. How can he know what you need if you don't tell him? You can call or send a fax, email message or letter.
